5 Creative Places to Put Your Art

Living Room Console

If you’re someone that has trouble styling your console, try adding a medium sized print to it. This is a great way to either add, colour, pattern or a focal point to your console. Just make sure to balance it out by adding some other tall elements such as candles or dried plants.

Kitchen

A room in your house that is often neglected in terms of artwork. Kitchens are a great opportunity to add some playful art to be a conversation opener for guests. When hosting, people will often migrate into your kitchen and having a bold piece of art on the wall can really spark an interesting conversation.

Bedside Table

Instead of just having your phone, clock and a glass of water, why not add a small piece of art? Your bedside table is often the first thing you see in the morning, so I recommend adding a soothing print to start your day in a calm and happy mood. Try to stick to a neutral or blue colour palette to create that relaxing feeling.

Bathroom

Another room that tends to be forgotten in terms of artwork. Bathroom art pieces are usually soft and subtle. Stay far away from the tacky word art bathroom jokes and try to go for a modern abstract or interesting photography piece. Another great option is soft floral pieces (either monochromatic or watercolour). No matter what are you choose, please reader, for me, do not add a toilet themed cartoon print - no one wants to look at those.

Over the Mantel

All that brick or wood over your mantel can seem a bit boring, so try to add a large piece of artwork. I recommend a colour palette that either blends well with the fireplace, or go for a pop of colour that contrasts nicely. The most common over the mantel art I have seen are landscapes and abstracts as they're a nice neutral choice.

3 Neutral Art Trends

Plaster Imitation

Plaster texture art is taking the home decor world by storm. Instead of adding a chunky piece of plaster, why not instead add a beautiful minimalist print? These pieces add a lovely textural touch to any contemporary interior. These art prints are perfect framed in natural wood or white frames.

Abstract Figure

A classic addition to a home, figurative art is always on trend. Neutral line or shape based abstracts look beautiful larger over furniture or smaller as an addition to a modern gallery wall.

Chunky Lines

Line art doesn't have to fade into the background, it can also be a focal point. Thicker line art is making a comeback in pieces such as the bellow artwork. Create the ideal tableau with a framed art print, chair and matching accessories.

4 Tips For Styling Scandinavian Art Prints

Wall Colour

If you're looking to create that calm Scandinavian feeling in a space, white or light earth toned wall paint are a great start. This bright calming space is ideal for the art style, hanging these modern art prints on colourful walls will clash.

Frame

I would opt for either a white or neutral wood frame. These lighter frames let the art shine. Heavy black wood frames will visually weigh the piece down and seem dark against the lighter walls.

Location

When deciding where to place your framed Scandinavian art print, some classic locations are in a gallery wall, on a console table or over a couch if the pieces are larger or in a set.

Accessories

If you're placing the piece on a console table, Scandinavian vases are a great place to start, the off-white or cream style of these pieces suit the art style perfectly. If you're looking for some other ideas, style pampas grass in the jug for added height if the art is hanging, you can also add pops of the colours from the art around the space in pieces like throw blankets and pillows.

Art Trends Winter 2023

Styles

The styles of trending artworks have remained consistent since the fall, with modern classics, botanicals and
textural abstracts leading the way in the design world.

Colours

In the colder seasons, the trending colours tend to be darker and more neutral. This year, rust, sage, black and navy seem to be the most popular in art. These pieces are best styled in modern spaces with pops of those same colours in other elements in your space such as throw blanks, pillows, trinkets, books or other small decor pieces.

The Vintage Art Trend

If you -like many- are seeing a massive rise in vintage artwork styled in modern interiors but aren't sure how you should be styling them in your own home, look no further. These pieces are often larger hung on a wall or much smaller styled on a shelf or console table.

If you want to go big, these oversized framed artworks look incredible hung over a fireplace mantle or couch, or as an addition to a vintage/eclectic gallery wall over a couch or in a hallway. If you want to keep that modern look, opt for a thin black wood frame or a neutral wood for a minimalist interior.

If you're hesitant, start small with a framed print styled on a shelf. Add a pop of colour to an otherwise plain shelf to create an instant focal point. Try to style the shelf with objects to bring out the colours of the print such as plants, vases, books or candles.

4 Tips For Layering Art

Colour

When matching art, an easy first step is to choose a colour palette. If you're searching for a simple colour palette, stick to neutrals and pops of black and white. If you're feeling more adventurous, try greens or blues for a simple trendy pop of colour.

Frame

If your art isn't in the exact same colour palette, another tip for matching art prints is the frame. Frame in matching frames to create an instant set.

Texture

A fantastic way to add texture to minimalist white spaces is through layered textured artwork. Style several different neutral art prints in varying styles on a modern console or fireplace. Try adding a modern textured canvas painting into the mix for some dimension.

Height

Make sure to stagger the heights of your art prints. When layering them, style the largest in the back, a smaller print in the middle and a medium sized print in the front.
